Andreas Hamann

CO-APPLICANT: Applied geospatial modelling and analysis

Andreas is an Associate Professor at the Department of Renewable Resources at the University of Alberta.  His primary research field is ecological genetics. He asks: How are tree species and their populations adapted to the environments in which they occur? How are natural populations affected by observed and projected climate change? How should we manage our forest genetic resources under changing environments?

Graduate students and staff in his lab work on ecological genetics of western North American tree species, climate change adaptation strategies for the forestry sector, conservation genetics, dendrochronology, ecophysiology, and phenology of tree species in boreal and tropical ecosystems.  They further maintain GIS, remote sensing, and climate databases for western North America.
